How Learning Really Works
👉 If learning feels hard, that’s a good sign.
Struggle builds strength.
Effort changes your brain.
Easy learning is often forgotten — it doesn’t go deep.
You learn better when you try to figure things out before being shown the answer.
And to grow, you have to push beyond your current level, even if that means setbacks.
Striving is part of mastery is your goal and we get mastery by the hours that we put into what is important to us.
Camila:
When Camila, a project manager from Colombia, joined Go English Live, she already had a decent understanding of English—but speaking in meetings made her anxious. Every time she had to explain a technical process or ask a question in English, she’d freeze. “I felt like my brain just stopped,” she told us in her first session.
She thought something was wrong with her. But it wasn’t. She was just at the edge of her current level—and that’s exactly where real learning happens.
Instead of avoiding her weak spots, Camila leaned in. She committed to speaking in every class, even when she made mistakes. She rewrote and explained meeting summaries in her own words. She recorded herself answering questions out loud, reviewed the recordings, and tried again.
Some days felt frustrating. But she didn’t quit. She stopped chasing “perfect,” and started focusing on progress.
Six months later, Camila now leads project updates in English, and she’s the one asking the sharp questions in meetings. What changed?
👉 She didn’t skip the hard part.
She wrestled with the language until it felt natural. And because of that effort, the skills stuck.
“At first, I just wanted to survive in English. Now, I’m actually confident. I speak more clearly in English than I do in Spanish at work sometimes.” – Camila

Can you think of something that was difficult to learn — but stayed with you because it was hard?
